Deeper

A wizard longing for human companionship is overwhelmed, first with happiness at encountering two people in his caves, and then with disappointment to find them neither as himself nor pursuant of his passion. As a study of loneliness, the story tells itself quite well. Lonely people are so because of isolation. Although often self-imposed, this isolation is no less lonely; its benefits simply compound its inescapability.
