Why Don’t You Love Me?

In this brief vignette, a cat owner pines over his cat’s misplaced affections. She downloaded the pet-care app so that her home service robot would care for it and keep it company while she worked. Now, the cat only loves the robot; it will not let Claire pet or hold it.

The story is a bit of a needless statement on the fickle, selfish nature of cats, and a bit of a statement on the sorts of things that ought not be automated. On the other hand, if the cat had been automated in the first place…
