Lost Pod

In a futuristic version of the lost luggage scenario, a news reporter must explain to his employer that he missed his deadline because the airline mislabeled his pod, leaving him in suspended animation for nearly a month. And, from his apparent frustration and pessimism, this scenario has not been entirely uncommon.

Like most of these consequence-of-technology stories, this one comes across quite humorous and hardly believable. The real issue is that lost luggage can prove disastrous. Luggage is not, as a rule, treated with care equal to its value. If the technology allowed for such mishaps, could we reasonably expect that people would be handled any better?
